MULTIPLE BENEFITS OF LAVENDER ESSENTIAL OIL.

Lavender essential oil was the first oil that drew me in to using essential oils. I wanted to start making homemade laundry soap because I was having skin reactions to the popular brand soap I had been using. I experienced quick relief by simply swapping out one product for a more natural based product.

My goal became to remove as many synthetic fragrances and harsh chemical ingredients from my home as possible. First swap was laundry soap, soon after I stopped buying fragrance enhanced hand wash. And eventually I traded surface cleaners for something better.

Lavender essential oil has a variety of uses and benefits. It is an essential oil that I like to keep on hand at all times. I also like to keep it my bag when going out because it has such a variety of beneficial uses. When diluted with a carrier oil, I use it for:

  • Soothing skin irritations (1)
  • Calm joint aches
  • Stop itchy insect bites
  • Massage tired muscles
  • Relieve tender diaper bum
  • Apply to back of neck to promote a calm mood (2)

CALM MOOD AND RESTFUL SLEEP.

The common benefit known to using lavender essential oil is for calm and relaxation. Research has linked the compounds in lavender with the ability to calm the central nervous system. (3) In this study researchers found that lavender helps support brain health, and other very fascinating conditions. I highly suggest you read this peer reviewed published document. Lavender has been found to improve mood among postpartum women. It has shown to help relieve restlessness and improve sleep quality. Participants of the study also noticed a reduction in feelings of nervous thought patterns when using lavender. A surprise observation, that I was unaware of until reading the published paper is that lavender was even shown to help manage challenges with the bladder when going to the bathroom. (4) With such a wide variety of uses for lavender essential oil, it makes this easily a must-have essential oil for any home.

When using lavender for aromatic mood calming benefits, it can be administered with a diffuser. I use between 4-8 drops of lavender essential oil with water in the diffuser to help relax and relieve tension. It is especially helpful with falling to sleep easily. By placing the diffuser near you while enjoying the benefits of it’s main constituent linalool, this will help to give a calm and relaxing mood. In other studies linalool was observed to have supportive mental health benefits. (5)

CASTOR OIL LIVER PACK.

A functional medicine approach for supporting liver health and natural regeneration, as well as reducing inflammation is the use of a castor oil liver pack. Lavender essential oil can be of benefit when combined with the castor oil liver pack. I explain all of the details and benefits of using this simple health tool in a complete blog post.

ACHY JOINTS AND TIRED MUSCLES.

For tired achy muscles and joints, I mix lavender essential oil with castor oil and rub into the area needing relief. You can mix approximately 1 teaspoon of castor oil with a couple drops of lavender essential oil as needed. Or, for quick use, have a prepared mixture of castor oil and lavender in a glass roller bottle.

How to make an essential oils roller bottle for tick bites

INSECT BITES.

While on a nature walk through the woods, I was reminded of why you want to stick to the main trail path.  After deviating off of the trail, I stepped into a nest of micro-ticks. My legs were covered with hundreds of them. I had approximately 50 tick bites on both of my legs that itched so badly it felt maddening.

Luckily, since I try to always carry lavender essential oil with me, I was able to use drops of it on a baby wipe to soothe the itching and remove several of the ticks until I could get home.

To continue treating the tick bites (that seemed to last for ever), I applied lavender, geranium, and lemongrass essential oils diluted with castor oil in a roller bottle until they healed.

As uncomfortable as that experience was, it allowed me the opportunity to test various essential oils for itching relief of which I wrote a post to share that information. It is always best to be very careful, more careful than I was, when walking in the woods that are known to also be traversed by deer. Ticks dropped by deer can be potentially dangerous. I was very lucky that day, and I learned my lesson. No longer do I consider myself invincible against the pesky tick bite.

FOR DIAPER CREAM.

Lavender essential oil is generally regarded as safe when diluted for use with children. In my personal opinion it is definitely safer than using products that are lavender scented with a synthetic fragrance. If your little one wears diapers, they may benefit from mixing a drop of lavender essential oil with coconut oil applied to a sore diaper bum following to this recipe. As a parent, the only diaper cream I ever use is lavender essential oil mixed with coconut oil. Occasionally a diaper rash may call for more care, in which I prepare a bath soak with equal parts baking soda, epsom salt, and sea salt to dry the rash. Thankfully, we never had to use prescription medications to manage a diaper rash.

PURCHASE WITH A DISCOUNT.

I use doTERRA essential oils because of their high quality. I can rest knowing that pure essential oils are in my bottle when I order. If it is an essential oil that is suitable for internal usage; I know that I will be safe ingesting the oil because of their purity. Each bottle of doTERRA essential oil comes with a batch number that you can enter on the Source to You website to see the compound levels of the essential oil from that batch.

There are two ways to purchase from doTERRA, and one way not to. Do not purchase doTERRA essential oils from Amazon vendors, these are not guaranteed pure quality. You can purchase essential oils at retail cost through a distributor like myself without opening a membership. However, I do not suggest that because you will be paying more for the products and missing out on savings opportunities for free products.

The best way to purchase doTERRA essential oils is to open a Wholesale Customer membership to instantly receive a 25% discount on all purchases. The membership cost is included for free with the enrollment kits, or $35 USD if you would rather not begin with a kit. I purchased the Home Essentials Kit to begin my doTERRA membership.

Once you begin using essential oils on a regular basis I can show you how to save even more on your purchases by utilizing the Loyalty Rewards Program (LRP). You essentially are rewarded for improving your quality of health!

When you begin your doTERRA account you will receive a welcome email letter from me and an invitation to be added to our private Facebook group and community of like-minded individuals that enjoy using essential oils to support their best quality of health; plus a welcome phone call with me to talk about your health goals and the essential oils you ordered! I look forward to getting to know you!
